i would take a little currency but mostly travellers cheques as you can spend them in most places over the same as you would money, as long as you have i.d. (your passport will be ok) hope this helps
Take some US dollars and for the rest use your cash card.
Travellers cheques rather an old fashioned waste of time and money. Their only advantage over cash is the insurance aspect, and they have no advantage over a card.
P.S. that advice goes for virtually anywhere in the world as both of my daughters and myself can testify.
They have travelled in some quite remote places!
if you are going to calafornia or new york avoid travellers cheques like the plague.. som eplaces that we went did not even know what they were.. I had to have a stand up row in many a bank.. they also totally screw you on commission to exchange.. use your card
If you've time open a Flexaccount with The Nationwide and use the cash card to withdraw money. Nationwide do not charge any commission on cash withdrawals overseas. The same applies to their credit card, but you do not get as much time to pay when the bill comes in.
