Tips For Travelling With Nearly 2 Yr Old

We are taking our 22 month old to Tenerife at the end of the month for a week and this will be her first flight!
Any tips for the flight (4 hrs approx)?
For the actual holiday, did other peole take nappies with them or buy there? Thinking of luggage weight allowances etc!
Also, we are staying at a hotel, for during the stay, did you take toys, and if so how many and what kind?

If I were going to take a babe I'd take a small amount of stuff and buy he rest there. Don't need to be lugging a load of stuff on top of all other things you need to do.

4 hours to Tenerife, it's a long time sitting. Buy the nappies there, cc - no point in lugging stuff about, and the shops in Tenerife have much the same as we do here. However, buy them in the local supermarkets, don't buy them at the hotel shop - and if you can't get your usual brand, buy what the locals are using.

Bring something for her to suck so her ears don't pop.

It's easier when they are under two because they can sit on your knee the whole of the flight. Take plenty of snacks so she won't become hungry and take simple toys such as her favourite book and a teddy. If you are short on luggage allowance, nappies can be easily bought in Tenerife. Remember sun cream factor 50+ it can be very costly in the Canary Islands.

It's a 4 hour flight and no I couldn't put up with someone else's grizzly child for that time. Whenever I fly my biggest dread is having babies and toddlers round me, sorry.
Having something to suck is a good idea, even the most placid of babies can scream on a plane.

I agree with ummmm.
Poke her wth a sharp stick the second she looks tired before the flight(only kidding!). Try and make sure she is due a nap just prior to the flight, it'll make the journey easier and your fellow passengers appreciative.
We used to take our own nappies to Cyprus, but that's because they seemed to be more expensive at the time, probably roughly the same price in Tenerife these days.
I wouldn't bother with any toys other than the usual 'comfort' type that children have, there will be plenty out there, plus she will have pool toys etc to keep her amused.

Ear plugs and plenty of them, for use by others passengers if not yourself !

We go there very often Chas, the flight time from Man A/Port is approx. 4, 1/2 Hrs, we have travelled amongst families with baby's, never no bother.

To add, the only problem you may have is the change in air pressure when descending.

There should be separate Planes for people with Screaming Brats, that's no way to start or finish a Holiday!

When my two were little, we regularly flew to Malta to visit my in-laws. They never screamed or caused a fuss about anything, even air pressure changes.

Colouring books etc would help keep them occupied and the novelty of the meal being served helped, too.
