3 Hrs
I usually like to check in about an hour and half before the flight, unless I have checked in on-line, then and hour. But if you are not a frequent flyer, maybe you would enjoy the airport experience and check in earlier.
Depends on the airline that you are using.
3hrs, for a European destination?

It will depend on your airline, you could check in on line and select your seat from home. How long you will need is greatly dependent on if you are checking bags in and the time of day as security could be busy.
^ absolutely. Flybe domestic is only 45 minutes for example.
3 hours TWR ? What on earth do you do there? Check in desks don't open until 2 hours before take off in some airports
Dee just a tip If I can, depending how far you live from the A/Port, judge the distance by the traffic that use the route, if an hour, that hour could take you 2>>3

Thank you for your answers, but as the flight time is 0720 am, and we would be travelling from the Isle of Man, it will require an overnight stay
Who are you flying with?

It's usually two hours.
The 0720 flight (flight number ZB 1376) to Venice Marco Polo is with Monarch.

The Monarch check-in desks open at 0420 for that flight and close at 0640. However you're also required to be at the departure gate by 0640, so checking-in earlier than 0640 would actually seem to be required (in theory at least):
http://www.monarch.co.uk/faq/flights/check-in-and-identification/check-in
(In practice though, departure gates often aren't even open at their official closure time. I've arrived at departure gates only 10 minutes before a flight on several occasions and never had a problem boarding).

I usually target my arrival at an airport between one and one and a half hours before the flight is due to leave but I've always checked-in online and never have baggage to go into the hold. Around two hours would probably be better for someone who is unfamiliar with the airport, not checked-in online and with hold baggage. (Like others above, I'd regard the suggestion of 3 hours as ridiculous!).

So, in your situation, I'd be looking to arrive no later than 0530, allowing just under 2 hours.
PS: If you want as much time in bed as possible, use Bewley's Hotel. It's within walking distance of the airport (but with a free bus shuttle service):

Other hotels near the airport are listed here:

Our tour operator must be wrong then, Oh Well.
