Using mobile phone abroad

Question 1

How do you get the uk from abroad? is it always 00 44 then drop the 0 from the number?

Question 2

Why won't my phone send or recieve Text messages while abroad? I have used "Roaming" this allowed me to make a call but not to text

Yes to the first bit.  You also need to do the same for texting.  Don't forget that this may mean changing people's numbers in your phone book in order to text them. 

Also remember that they only pay up to Dover (i.e., to the edge of England, I somehow always think of that as Dover even though it's not!) - you pay the rest of the way.  So receiving calls and texts can cost you a LOT of money.

whilst on holiday in Fuerteventura this year, I tried phoning home on my mobile and added the 44 and couldn't get through when I just tried using the numbers in my 'phone book it got through straight away. I think if it is a UK registered mobile you do not need to use the 44 and just dial as per normal. I received text messages as normal whilst on holiday as well.

When leaving the UK the phone will automatically put the country dialling number infront of UK numbers. Take a quick look at the details of your contacts by using the edit option and you will see this.

When I moved to Hamburg this time last year, my phone didn't do that for me.  I'm not saying anyone's wrong, just that things are obviously different with each model/network. 

Your friends always have to add a 44 to get you when you're abroad though.  If they have you as an 07 and you leave the country, they'll need to change it.

as with Jules001, no problems, using Orange Pay as you go just used the UK numbers.

when putting numbers in your phone i alway use the full international codes +44 the "+" is usually next to the "0". this will tell the phone that u r making an international call when u r abroard and will automatically use the international code.. some countries do not use 00 they might use 010 for their international call, so u will need to chk that out if u do not use the "+" button.

this is the same for text msg,, u should be able to recieve and send them if phone is enabled to send and rcvd txt msgs.

You need to check with your service provider if your phone is set up for 'roaming', if not get it enabled

I am a bit confused by the "+" is this the same as typing 0 or 00 before the 44? or do you actually have to get a "+" symbol?

My phone is a Motorola V50 and I am with T-mobile pay as u go

kaz the "+" button is usually on the "*" button with some phones u might need to hold the button untill the "+" sign comes up on others u press the "*" twice...

The international access code for dialing from the UK to the outside world is 00 but this varies with which country your in. You can use the + symbol instead of the international access code. So if you key all your numbers on your UK mobile as +44 (drop the first 0) then you can call your numbers from home and abroad.
