can anyone tell me how long it takes to go thru customs and whatever at JFK?  My flight is due to arrive at 7.50pm, what time (roughly) will i get out of the airport?

I've heard the horror stories, but my experiences have al been good.

Customs took me a maximum of 5 minutes waiting in line, and then 1 minute at the desk, where my photo was taken digitally, my finger print taken digitally, and my passport stamped.

Depending on how quickly your bags arrive, you could be through in half an hour.  Last time I was there I was in the lobby of my hotel on Park Avenue and 50th Street 60 minutes after the getting off the plane.

Took me a bit longer to get through Customs at Chicago, probably about 40 minutes.

Not been there for a few years, but last time I went through I was on the Grayline bus in about 30 mins.

yes, luckystrike, its me immortal.  dont really use that id anymore tho.  :)  well i have to say that ur three stories have put my mind at ease.  i was expecting to spend three hours in the airport :)

I have found usually 30 mins or so but a tip is to get in the line next to the US citizens, once they are all through they usually start on the non-citizens and call then next line over.  It is so quick you don't even realise your photo has been taken.  Enjoy.

AGREE with other answers that may not take long but I have been to NYC  seven times and  have waited for a time In May  a long wait Suppose depends what planes land at same time . Once outside the airport I'VE  always taken the bus to grand central which is good value  theres a sky train now but stop at subway some distance so would be a train ride from there may try it on my next trip but its not bad and just wait behind the yellow line to be called for passport check they are OK asked why your visiting etc   Have a good trip
