Many thanks indeed to New Zealand for continuing to recognise the links with the UK. For our part, we shall never forget the great sacrifices you made to help us in two World Wars. It is a matter of great shame to us that you were treated so badly by our useless politicians when they went crawling to join the Common Market in the 1970s. It is just possiblethat the British people will get off their knees amd vote to stuff the EU in June!

"It is just possiblethat the British people will get off their knees amd vote to stuff the EU in June!" - I so much hope you are right chris.
Chris...there is plenty of Anchor butter and NZ lamb in our shops, so I'm at a loss to understand whay our Membership of the EU is so detrimental ?

Is this post just an anti-EU rant, in disguise ?
Well said Chris.
This vote; is it a referendum, or a vote in the House of Commons? And when does it take place?
see my link it's a referendum in New Zealand, already taken place.
Stuey...its a Referendum, where everybody who is allowed to vote in the UK, will be able to do so, in exactly the same was as General Election. It will happen on June 23rd.

I understand that it is a "consultative" Referendum, so the present Government will be able to assess what to do after the vote. For instance if its a 49%-51%, it may not result in an immediate change.

I think that is correct but I may be wrong.
Stuey...I may have got your query wrong...I take it you were referring to our Referendum, on stay-leave, of the EU ?
stuey, sorry I thought you meant the NZ flag vote.
No. I mean the vote regarding Britain leaving the E.U..
OK, I see: The people vote, and then the Government decides:)
Referendums are not legally binding but any government that ignores the outcome of one would be committing political suicide.
Stuey...twas ever thus !
//Referendums are not legally binding but any government that ignores the outcome of one would be committing political suicide. //

no, they'll just keep calling neverendums until the population returns the right answer. then they'll respect the result.
Here, hear to that Chris38!
mikey..."plenty of Anchor butter in the shops". Not surprising, since it's made by Arla Foods...in Wiltshire!
//there is plenty of ......... NZ lamb in our shops//

whilst that's true, and there's a 132 year tradition of importing lamb from NZ, less than one third of UK's consumption is now from NZ. NZ's most valuable market is now the middle east, which is why all NZ lamb is halal.
Thanks ginge, I was not aware of that !

But I notice from the wiki entry, that it has only been made in Wiltshire since 2012, thus I can assume it was imported from NZ, from the date that we entered the EU until that 4 years ago, so I am still unsure what Chris38 is on about.

As far as I am aware, NZ lamb still comes from NZ !

So I must conclude that this tread is indeed, an anti-EU rant, as I suspected.
Amen to that Chris.
I thought I posted my vote of appreciation earlier on another thread.
I think you are very wrong Mikey.
