Is it possible to get to Majorca, from Britain, other than flying ? My brother has been told that he shouldn't fly.

I'm sure you could take the train to Barcelona or Valencia and a ferry from there

I haven't slept in a Couchettes, since I was a teenager in the 60's. I thought it was the most romantic way to travel. We used them on a school trip to Switzerland when I was 13. I can still remember my first sight of the Alps, early in the morning, from the train window....100% magic !

How the Teachers got us settled for the night is anybodies guess, as we were all super-excited !
We drugged you, Mikey...... ;-)...x

Maybe !
By train from Paris to Barcelona, 1 day 4 hours.....and you can't go through Barca without a little sightseeing, the Gaudi a must...some good cuisine as well.

We stayed in a small Hotel in Spiez, on Lake Thun, and its still there :::

I don't remember it being so posh in 1966 !

We went up to the top of the Jungfrau, and went to Grindlewald, and Luzerne. Very heady stuff for such a young boy.

I have been back to the area a few times since 1966, and its simply wonderful. Great memories...

I've never slept in one. When I went inter- railing in Europe with a friend we had a lot of long overnight journeys in train compartments (and even sitting on the floor on some occasions) - but it was fun if not comfortable. Couldn't contemplate it now!

"By train from Paris to Barcelona, 1 day 4 hours"
I may have misunderstood you but it is just over 6 hours from Paris to Barcelona.

Sqad...according to the schedule that Toorak posted, that bit of the journey, by sleeper, takes over 12 hours.
It might be posssible to get a TGV from Paris to Barcelona that is much quicker

It would be worth looking at a variety of options
Question Author
mikey.....O.K...I can only assume that there are a lot of stops ;-)
Squad .. when Dtc did it .. it was on a steam train .. :-)

I think the journey time is directly related on how much you spend ...

Alava......LOL
Baleària operates a ferry service to Mallorca from Barcelona, using fairly small vessels:
https://www.balearia.com/en

Trasmediterranea operate on the same route but using far larger vessels (with more onboard facilities):
https://www.trasmediterranea.es/en/

Expect a crossing time in the region of 7½ hours.

The best site for planning rail travel across Europe is actually that of the German railways (which brings together the timetables of all European rail operators):
https://www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml

Looking at that website, typical journey times between St Pancras International and Barcelona Sants are around 10 or 11 hours and it can be managed with just a single change at Lyon.

Through tickets can be booked with SNCF:

I was just thinking .. where's Chris when you need him ?
