Nutritious Light Meals - Travel

I am travelling abroad for a couple of weeks. Owing to location and time constraints, I will have to pack nutritious, balanced light meals/snacks in my suitcase. I will buy local food/hotel meals wherever possible, but there will be times when I have to eat something in my room or on the hoof. I want to ensure there is roughage etc in what I eat and not have 'junk' food. I have got some muesli/fruit bars, paste and crackers. Maybe sachets/Armed Forces rations should be considered, although I haven't got cooking facilities. Although my luggage will be heavy flying out, it will get lighter as the days progress. Suggestions please

Check that there is a minibar/fridge in the room and any import restrictions. I always travel with powdered milk (much better than that disgusting Coffeemate stuff) and a tub of cereal for emgergencies.
Mini babybel cheeses last for a couple of days without refridgeration. You can also get John West tuna pouches although I did find that they reminded me of Felix cat food.
Oh, and I never go anywhere without a bottle of Tabasco - it livens up many a room service meal.
If you tell us where you're going we might be able to make some appropriate suggestions.

The cheese is a good idea. I was wanting more of a meal. I should have said that breakfast is included, but I need suggestions for lunch and dinner. There are no refrigerators in the rooms, which is restrictive for the food that I can take with me.

I am going all over rural Japan, starting out very early in the morning and arriving at the lodging houses late at night. I think that I am looking for portable sealed meals, but where to get them from in the UK, I am not sure. Of course, as I have mentioned, I will be eating local cuisine (Sushi etc) where I can
You`ll be a bit limited for full meals without a fridge. You`ll be alright for a couple of days with a pack of pitta bread, some cherry tomatoes and a tub of olives. Depends where you`re going - some countries won`t let you take food in. Check out if there are any supermarkets around.
that's a bit tricky on taking anything fresh as you won't be able to store it for long - have you looked at camping/outdoor sites as they will have meals that can be easily carried/eaten?

some ideas here

No supermarkets around my locations. I am taking a portable kettle, so could cope with adding boiling water to products e.g. pot noodles, but I was hoping for something a bit more balanced nutritionally.

Mccfluff - I will have a look at your links, thank you.
How about pots of porridge which can be made with just hot water. You could take some dried fruit/honey etc... to jazz it up a bit and make it more nutritious if you are allowed to take them.

Sardines, tinned fruit and sealed pitta bread - ideas from Mccfluff's link

Thank you Eve. I might well do that and take supplementary nuts and dried fruit
you can get bags of mixed seeds, they're good in porridge - where are you going out of interest?
Question Author
Thank you, Mccfluff. I will pick up some packets from my local supermarket before I go. I am flying in to Tokyo and each day travelling to a new place, so living out of a large suitcase.
oh wow, sounds amazing, I'd love to go to Japan, hope you have a lovely time - and get a chance to eat some local food!

Spathiphyllum. The desserts look delicious on your link.
Bear in mind that there are a lot of things you can't take into Japan. I have never been 'rummaged' there but you could be in trouble if they find prohibited goods http://www.au.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/visa_quarantine_en.html
