Have always said it's not Christmas until I hear Fairytale of New York on the radio. Heard it on the Elaine Paige show today. Suppose I'll have to do some shopping now.
It was on two days ago on Smooth Radio. I have the Pogues CD with it so always play it myself.I played it for my sister once when she came from Canada to stay for Christmas. She thought the lyrics most odd especially scumbags, maggots and faggots. :-)
//Hate that song. They sound like a bunch of drunks. Dire//
That's completely unfair. The lead singer, Shane MacGowen is a drunk, the rest of the band are very talented musicians. (I love the song, Kirsty MacColl was one of my favourite singers ever)
Naomi, the song is about a couple of drunks/druggies fallen on hard times after their dreams were shattered.
Shane MacGown, the Pogues singer, is known for his previous drug use, but Kirsty MacColl was as clean as a whistle.
For as long as I can remember, my Phil Spector Cd is played in the weeks leading up to Christmas and definitely on Christmas day. This was fine with my 3 daughters until they got married and son-in-laws all said 'OH, NO! So now I can only play it in the confines of my home and in the car where I have it well, quite loud. :-)
Well we should start looking at an Answerbank Nativity Play.
