I can't decide!

4/5 nights for my mother and me, we like history, architecture and foreign cuisine.

Which would you recommend, and can you suggest a nice hotel near the centre of town that does a decent breakfast.

Ljubljana and Riga would be alternative choices.

Thanks.

Been to Riga, Prague and Budapest ...all very nice places but i preferred Budapest ...it really is the jewel of the danube ...so much to see and very cheap...
We stayed slightly out of town in a cheaper hotel , so can't help with that bit.
Travel passes were very useful for getting about quickly.
If you choose Budapest you MUST go around their parliament building but, be warned, you might have to book the day before as it gets very busy.
Incidentally, if you are above retirement age all public transport in Budapest is free for EU citizens; if you are planning to go this year that might still apply - check it out.
Been to both, and it’s definitely Prague for me (8 times now).

I like walking around cities, and I found Budapest too big, whereas Prague is fairly walkable.

I’ve always stayed at Hotel Duo, it’s about 15 mins from Wenceslas Sq on the tube, but the station is just over the road from the hotel.

I too am interested in architecture, and Prague is a beautiful city.

We'd be going next year in late May / early June, so weather would also a factor in our choice.

Neither of us will be of retirement age by then. I'll be 44 and my mother will be 63.

Thanks for the answers. Any tips or advice much appreciated.

Flight times might be the deciding factor. Going out mid-morning and coming back mid-afternoon would be perfect and Birmingham would be the airport of choice.

Thanks again.
aha - Praha deffo
done both

Budapest - The Vienna of the East of the austro hungarian empire - flew out on 11 sep 2001 ! - and on the way to the airport (sort of before then) having apologised for the Betrayal of Yalta ( me: we dont teach the children this Taximan: that doesnt surprise me ) - (*)

he said - what did you do for the final three days ( of seven ) ?
and I said - erm - Museum of art design = they have a lof of Mucha

and he said - Like it?

and I said - not mucha -

anway you run out of galleries and museums in Budapest after about three days -

Prague for me - and it suits your preferences. Add garnets. Can't recommend a city centre hotel though. Prague is compact enough to see a lot easily.

I'm leaning towards Prague at the moment with a package deal with Jet2, but there are so many hotels to choose from x
Prague next year then Budapest the year after, both worth a visit. Also, consider Vilnius, had a lovely few days there
We've been to both and in balance preferred Prague but both are lovely. Take cruise up the river, we went at night. We stayed at the Thalia Hotel in Prague which is part of the Eurostars group it was excellent and central. This was a few years ago now.

You never got to go to Krakow did you, MT? I hope you get to go - it's a beautiful city.
Unfortunately not LCG - still waiting for refund from EasyJet but they said it would take about 28 days. We will go next year hopefully. I'm sure you'll like Prague, lots to see.
Question Author
Did you book everything through easyJet?

We booked our flights to Ljubljana with them and we're still awaiting a refund.
Your Answer...Budapest for me for the food and wine.

Prague for the history, though Budapest has its gems.

If you can't afford the Corinthia have a look at the Barcelo - about 90 a night.
Question Author
The Corinthia was the one I was looking at, DT, but what worries me about Budapest is that its so big and my mother's ankle wouldn't withstand all that walking ... and my ankle will never be the same again.
I`ve been to both. Don`t remember much about Budapest as I wasn't there very long but Prague is absolutely beautiful and you can easily walk around it in a day.
Done both Budapest much better in my opinion. Prague ok but done it all in 2 days then bored. But just my opinion. Krakow fantastic as is Amsterdam and Barcelona
