Tesco chief executive, Sir Dave Lewis is to advise on how to fix the supply chain crisis that has led to petrol and other shortages.

It comes as the Office for National Statistics found one in six UK adults said they had been unable to buy essential foods in the last fortnight.

The recent fuel crisis was caused in part by a shortage of lorry drivers.

So, here's a question for the AB 'experts' with brains (more than the Ex Tesco boss, assuming big brains exist here) and even those without, even normal size brains - what's the answer to fix the supply chain crisis, what is the solution?

Get your own bludgers off their posterior, train them and offer a decent wage
many retired some due to the long hours and low pay.
Yep, decent wages (and conditions) is the answer.
Low pay long hours, sums it up nicely Emmie.
Our farmers haven't had the usual influx of backpackers this year, or last.
Aren't they bleating like poddy lambs.
Pay a decent wage, get a decent worker.
It’s not just wages tho. When the drivers are out on the road, many of the facilities have been closed or are expensive and in a poor state of repair (dirty showers etc).
Nobody should have to complain about a dirty shower, unless they drive on and the next one, or two, is dirty as well.
Then they have a reason to complain
That's disgusting.
My flabber is gasted!!
No wonder nobody wants to perform menial tasks
There is no supply chain crisis in the UK.... Boris has told you,
now all put your blinkers back on.... loads of petrol.... loads of food.
Is that you, Boris?

They’re never anything else, to be fair.
1ozzy, very often the lorry drivers can't simply 'drive on' to the next one. The hours they can drive are regulated and monitored and when they park up for the night usually they have used up their quota of hours.

My friend stopped being a lorry driver when his boss installed a web cam in his cab - facing him. He said the tacho was bad enough, the dash cam understandable, his boss constantly phoning him a pain - the webcam was the last straw.
I thought about explaining that to 1ozzy, Barry but concluded that it would probably be either misinterpreted or misunderstood (or both).

You've never had it so good,... since the Thatcher days,... enjoy.
I must be lucky - my butcher and greengrocer has had everything I need and the only thing Tesco couldn't deliver for a couple of weeks was tonic water.
an old one
who feeds Paris ( or gets 8m into Cairo in the morning so its population can double by day)

so why havent the usual mechanisms worked? - pay em more and they will turn up
oh we dont want to do that and we have no drivers

there must be something in Cicero - de re publica - about this. "take control Romans or else someone will arise and call himself emperor" or something ( in ancient forrin of course)
Haven't had to cue for fuel yet.
Got all the shopping needed when needed.

Up to now, this crisis has passed me by.

I was gonna say, my fuel comes out of a pipe, but hey keep on track....!
There is no easy answer.
“Decent wages” is an aspiration not a fix
