Next month I have a hospital appointment and the chances are, I might have to get a taxi to take me there.
I usually drive myself but am not able to at the moment and I was wondering how much it would cost me.
I've done the route on Goggle maps and it's about 10miles, but it will be 8am when I suppose the roads will be busy.
Do taxi's charge by the distance or how long it takes?
How much should I expect to pay?

where are you? What sort of taxi? You may be able to ring up the company, if there is one, and ask the price in advance
Question Author
jno I'm in Greater Manchester.
No idea what type of taxi, I don't even have a number for one as I don't know where they are yet.
I suppose I'll have to google that.
Do they charge be the time or distance?
If you get the app for the local firm then you can put in the trip and it will tell you how much before you book it. Where are you?
Question Author
TTT can't do apps as I don't have a smart phone.
Depends very much on where you live and the time of day you want to travel. Some charge by distance, others by time.
As suggested, download the app of a local taxi firm and Uber as comparison.
Ahm no smart phone - call your local taxi firm, they'll happily give you an idea of cost
You can't use PTS unless you can't get there any other way.
Well you can just ring them up and ask, they'll give you an estimate.

Trying to Google find my nearest Taxi firm and it'scoming up with firms that are nowhere near where I live.
Can someone give me a link where I can just put in my postcode to find my nearest one please?
Question Author
Please know I am a 75 yr old elderly lady without a smartphone and can't even remember the last time I used a taxi and I've no idea what Uber is.
Are you in South Manchester, Barsel? I'm in Wilmslow and if AB will allow I can give you the name of a good firm you can ring.
just google "nearest taxi firm to me" - or got to Yell.com
Try this - be sure to put the time of intended travel as well as the date

Why are you ignoring my post Barsel? It may help you.
I assume its a weekday and most taxi firms have contracts to transport kids/young people to schools and day centres so you might be best trying to go earlier if you can.
I just did this this morning, googled my postcode (just the first three digits, no need to be too particular) and taxis. The first one only did airports, the second one seems to have vanished, the third one got me to hospital. I asked the fare when I booked.
Maybe she hasn't seen it, lb.
Oh well I tried. I paid £60 the first time I had to do a 10 mile journey to hospital not knowing there was help. Luckily my daughter took me most times but there is help if you need it. Local Council is a good place to check.

Sorry Ladybirder, I'm not ignoring you, and to be honest, I am entitled to use that service, my GP told me that, but I've heard you have to be ready at least 2 hours before your appointment which in this case would be about 6am and I'm worried I might not wake up early enough even with the alarm.
If I can't get any joy with a taxi firm or if they are going to charge me an arm and a leg, I might try the PTS and just not go to bed the night before. :-)
Thanks for the link, I might just need it.
