I think reporting the whole thread (with a request that a typo be dealt with) is more likely to be read by an Ed than just posting on the thread, which will only be seen if an Ed is already reading it.

Yes, exactly what we need here. Those provisos prevent abuse (e.g. making reply look silly by altering/deleting original - must admit I've done it occasionally on FB, but they now mark it accordingly).
