Remembrance Sunday - Is It Safe?

My route to the parade begins when I arrive at Stanmore tube station and park up, then tube into Charing Cross. As Stanmore is known for its' Jewish community, and there have been rumblings about demos, I'm wondering if it will be ok to make this journey. At the moment, I will still be going, but I'm just wondering about things. What do you think?

I wouldn't be going anywhere near Charing Cross on Saturday- this from the Jewish Chronicle yesterday:

"Dozens of marchers were arrested for offences including inciting racial hatred, breaching the Terrorism Act, and assaulting police officers.

One man leading a call and response chant to hundreds at a Charing Cross sit in protest announced: "We need to escalate, today we have taken Charing Cross, next week we take Charing Cross, we take Victoria, we take Waterloo, we do so at 3pm."

Protesters across London wielded placards showing the Star of David being thrown into a bin, quoting Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and insisting, "from the river to the sea Palestine will be free."

 

In the newly established Republic of Charing Cross the leader announces the plan for next week:

I don't think safety can be guaranteed by any means - these demonstrations are mob mentality - but it's important to stand up to this rabble - especially on this occasion.

PP, living at the bottom of Oldham Road was paradise in the 1940's and 50's! Even though we didn't have electricity! 😊

It's a shame AB doesn't have a flag for you to carry, Clarion.  We could all look out for you on the telly!   I hope it all goes well.  Stay safe.

Go 10C but arrive a hour before you originally planned to. That should get you into central London before many others will have gathered and you can always lose an hour with a newspaper in a cafe. Stay close to your march route where you'll have plenty of police support. 
Do the same afterwards. Stay for a while and let the crowds disperse before heading to the tube.

Thanks again folks. I doubt you will see our group on the telly. As far as I can tell, we are positioned towards the rear of the parade, with other Royal Navy groups. In the past, our particular association have had really good words from David Dimbleby during the march past which brought quite a few new members.

I honestly feel the coverage is spoilt now by the BBC who seem to put the focus on Sophie Raworth interviewing people while the main event passes by in the background. 

However, I will be there to remember the fallen. That is the point and the main thing. Just in case our group does get coverage, I will be wearing a cap which says HMS Glorious.

I agree with you about the interviews.  I would far rather watch the whole marchpast.  I love the bands too.

When you hear the band Naomi, you are only hearing half of it. The playing is shared for each march. Half the band play one march, then the other half play the next one, and so on. It's a lot easier on the lips!
