We have never been here before but would like to try it in May.Would welcome suggestions on where to stay. Possibly split between a few days for shopping and the rest beach. A weather guide would also be most welcome. My thanks in advance

The Radisson in Bangkok was fantastic, but it really depends on your budget. I know several people who paid very little and stayed in B&B and hostels, and had a fantastic time.

Been there a few times both independently and booked through Trailfinders who are very good at matching people with the right style. They convinced us to pick a better hotel for our one-night stop over in Bankock which was the Shangri-La which was amazing and up graded us for little money. Would spend 2-3 days in Bangkok at beginning or end for shopping and sightseeing - personally I would do at end to have got used to the heat. Phuket and Samui are the more popular islands and have ranges of accommodation (Samui lots of 20 year olds partying) the north Chaing Mai is good base for trecking and night shops. Amazing food where ever you go. Check likely weathe on yahoo weather.
