A lot.

Go by coach - Greenline from airport door to Victoria, very reasonable.

This site says 60 one way http://www.where2guv.com/?referer=7&searchkeyword=Luton%20Taxi but how long? - depends if the driver thinks you know where you are heading if they are a crook, or just up to the traffic - train is minimum 50 mins and damned lucky to get a seat - if the thing is running
It's about 35 miles, so that figure of 60 sounds as if it might be about right, but be warned: Many taxi drivers know what the black cabs charge within central London and can be tempted to charge similar rates. (e.g. the 2 mile trip from Liverpool Stret to Waterloo normally costs about 12, ie. 6 per mile. If you get a taxi driver who charges those sort of rates you might not have much change out of a couple of hundred quid!).

The journey duration depends upon exactly where you're going to in central London. On a Friday evening, the M1 can be busy and there are usually some sort of delays somewhere along the journey. I'd reckon on about 1 hour 15 minutes as a rough guide.

To get a quote for both the fare and the journey time, contact one of the two authorised taxi companies which operate from Luton Airport:
Alpha Taxis: 01582 595555
CABCO Taxis: 01582 736666

The way which most people usually take into central London is to take the free shuttle bus to Luton Airport Parkway station. The trains are fairly frequent and they won't be crowded, travelling southbound, on a Friday evening. The trains run to Kings Cross Thameslink as well as several other stations within central London.

The cheapest road route into London is the easyBus service which charges 8 walk-up fare but can cost as little as 2 if pre-booked online:
http://www.easybus.co.uk/booking/EBUSBook.asp
This service runs to Baker Street.

The alternative is the GreenLine coach. It's not usually necessary to pre-book but, if you wish to do so, go here:
https://kiosk4.ts.com/k?arrivashires&greenline&ka=londonluton&promo=route757
This service runs to Victoria Coach station.

Thanks Chris , lots of great info there , seems like the train or bus is the way to go .The taxi would end up costing more than the flight from Dublin !

I recently travelled on my holidays & did most of the travelling from Luton Airport and London amongs other places. If you book online with National Express a week or so in advance, you can actually get a ticket for 1 Pound! I forget what its called but I got it at that price several times.

Friday night is one of the worst times to travel this route especially because any little accident on the M1 causes huge delays. I was delayed for 4 hours on one occasion on a Fri nite!

I also booked a Ryan Air ticket online from Luton to Dublin for 10 pence plus tax! At those prices, I couldnt believe that so many English havent even been to Ireland...which btw, is 1000 times nicer than England

Question Author
Well Felix , being born and reared in ireland , I also think Ireland is a 1000 times nicer than England too, but maybe I'm just biased !! I wish it was that cheap to fly from ireland to England though !
