We are trying to arrange a surprise holiday for my mother in law (Only Scotland). We cannot find an up to date passport, only an expired one. She has no other photo id. Will the passport office tell us if she has a current passport ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If you need photo-id for a flight to Scotland, you MIGHT be able to use something other than a passport or European driving licence - it seems that Shaun's grandmother did - but DON'T rely on it. Different airlines have different rules. Ryanair, for example, definitely won't accept something like a bus pass:

a relative of mine flew to scotland with Air Wales and they accepted her provisional drivers licence but wouldnt accept her partners student card. as stated before i think it depends on the airline although usually its got to be something government issued examples are passport, drivers licence, armed forces photo id etc maybe phone the airline, explain the situation and see if they can suggest anything
