Does anybody know how you can go about applying for UK residency if you have only had a UK work permit for 2 years?

I know that you should have a work permit for at least 4 years before applying, but wondered if anybody knew of a way around this. The person applying for residency is a Kenyan national and has been working in the UK for just over 2 years now and wishes to have indefinite leave to remain in the UK for herself and her family.

From my understanding of a rather irate colleague, the rules in April change to 5 years of working before residency can be applied for, as she falls just short (she's from South Africa). As we work for the N.H.S., with current state of play with redundancies, she's just hoping to hold onto the job for another year.
