Do a loop - Bangkok - Siem Reap (for Angkor Wat) - boat to Phnom Penh - boat down the Mekong into Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) - Nha Trang - Hoi An - Hanoi - Vientiane - Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang - Vientiane (again!) - Bangkok.
At least that's what I did a couple of years ago. There are other places worth a visit on the loop but I managed to visit those places in 6 weeks (as part of a round the world 10 month adventure). Get your Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia visas sorted before you leave or as soon as you get to Bangkok, as can take up to a week. Have fun!
We did the trip last November and it was amazing.Dha Nang is a nice Vietnamese resort but try to get out into the Vietnamese countryside It's well worth the effort. The bridge on the River Kwai and Kanchanaburi are well worth the time taken to visit them It's an easy day trip from ******** and lots of tour companies do it .I'm not sure how easy it is to go it alone but the trips are cheap
