Flying to and back from Toronto in Aug/Sep. Want to do New York and Boston for a couples of days each. Any ideas for outdoor/lakeside/wilderness activities or places to stay around the Great Lakes? Or have we time to go further down the east coast?????? We have one month. Any ideas anyone????

Whatever you do don't miss Niagra Falls. Take the tour and The Maid of the Mist!
depending on the exact time, you may get to see the fall foliage - it starts in Canada and works south, usually from September. Absolutely stunning colours. On the Canadian side, don't forget Montreal and Quebec city. If you're hiring a car make sure there are no problems about crossing the border.

an idea would be to get hold of some holiday brochures for organised coach tours (Titan is a particularly good one). I know you are travelling independently but they would give you some great ideas of things to do and where to stay etc. We used the Titan brochure as the main research for our trip to Canada, it's quite a good resource and if we had a bit more cash we prob would've booked one of their coach tours (lol) but in any case we prefer the freedom to travel when and where we want

Other than that check out www.greatlakesnorthamerica.co.uk or similar sites
