what is the best currency to take

im going on holiday to mamaris and was wondering what money to take as everyone i have spoken to ssays to take pound or euros

your pounds will usually be worth more out there than buying turkish lire over here as there economy is pretty weak.


Although these days the notes are much easier to get used to as there used to be millions of lira to the pound..... much less zeros on the end now so you'll get the hang of using the money much quicker!


Also you used to have to pay �10 on arrival...almost like a visa type thing. It used to be that they preferred crisp then pound notes (as opposed to scruffy ones or 2 fivers). Dont know why that was.

forgot to say....dont rely too heavily on using cashpoints as you could get charged loads and they're not always the most reliable. whereas over here they get topped up regularly once they run out of money/stop working in Turkey it can be days before they're back up to speed.


Yes - sterling is best. You can exchange travellers cheques at banks and even at hotels. Keep some Pounds cash to come home with as the airport prefers it and get rid of your lira as it won't be worth much when you get back.
