In Tunisia the exchange rate is fixed daily by central government so you'll get the same rate wherever and however you change money. I usually take a small amount of Sterling and then use ATMs. Incidentally, since about 1997 you've been able to import and export Tunisian dinars - at least I've been able to get them from my local Post Office!
there's not much cause to export them; where else would you use them? But I've got a few left over from previous trips - just the usual unspent money, not millions - and nobody's ever even thought of searching me. I usually just give them to charity. Anyway, sterling is okay. Dollars are welcome anywhere, but it would presumably mean changing money twice if you're in the sterling area.
