Holiday in March

has anyone got any suggestions of somewhere warm to visit in March. Ideally somewhere with a fairly short flight time, and not to pricey.

It would be good to be somewhere that offers a couple of interesting places to visit, as well as nice hotels to relax in.

What's your definition of 'warm'?

Even the southernmost areas of Europe don't get particularly warm in March. I've just checked the BBC website for some average daily maximum temperatures. The March figures for southern Spain, southern Italy, southern Greece and Cyprus are all around 16C to 19C. (Those are the roughly the same temperatures which southern England has had for the last few days. They might seem 'warm' for England in October but I'm not sure that they're what most people mean when they want a 'warm' holiday destination).

To find temperatures above 20C, you'll have to head further south. The most popular destination with cheap flights and hotels has to be the Canary Islands.

An interesting alternative, though, might be to consider Marrakesh. Ryanair fly there from Luton, with a journey time of just over three and a half hours. (For the random dates in March I just tried, they're currently quoting �82.25 return, including taxes & charges). Typical maximum daytime temperatures in March are around 23C. The airport is only 4 miles (15 minutes by taxi) from the city centre.

My husband and I went to Madrid in November and it was certainly warmer than home. Its a beautiful city and we got flights from Liverpool for just over �100. I would certainly recommend it - there are lots of things to do and not enough time to do it in.

Try Madeira, temperature pretty even all year round, 60/80oF. Best to consider staying in or around Funchal as other resorts can be very quiet., especially out of season. New network of tunnels give easy road access all over the island or you can take the scenic route on the winding roads that skirt around the central mountains. Loads of walks along the levadas if you fancy a bit of fresh mountain air, as easy or strenuous as you want to make it. Quite a bit to see around the island but a word of warning, no beaches to speak of. It is a very hilly but beautiful island, same flying time as for Canaries. Strawberry World's website should give you some idea if it is for you. Oh yes, not many kids either.

Go to the Canary Isles - particularly Fuerteventura - we go every March and October and the weather is always warm. Quiet enough but you can also visit Lanzarote in 15 mins if you stay in the resort of Corralejo. We are just back on 25/10/2006 and weather was scorching for a week.

i would recommend the red sea marsa alam, sharm el sheik or hurghada, brilliant weather around 25degrees im march, fantastic diving!

Like the previous answer I suggest Egypt.A Nile cruise is great (not stuffy but lots to see and do)and very earsonable.My partner and I went in April this year and it was very hot.Food on most of the boats is very good but the Flash Group boats have a really good reputation and provide excellent guides and a bit of evening entertainment as well
