is it safe being in the red light district? im going to amsterdam on thurs and my bf wants 2 visit this area. i know its quite seedy but do many tourists go to have a peek or will we look dead pervy if we go? anyone been before?
We went to Amsterdam for a weekend about 3 months ago. Apart from all the other attractions, the red light district is just another. It's not at all like you would think. Wife and I walked up and down the streets giggling all the time - and I'm 50 !!!! (Memeories probably lol). ALL age groups (it looked like MOSTLY tourists) are just there to see what it's all about - no pervies at all.
was there in August.
Just another part of the city. It's nothing like the areas you'd associate with red-lights in UK.
Actually quite a nice place.
Couple of decent bars there.
Good window shopping.
Just, when the guys ask you if you're name's Charlie, ignore them and carry on walking.
There are hundreds of tourists there, so you will not be the only ones there. It is not how you would expect a red light district, and it is well lit.
By the time that you have walked up and down the road, and had a look at the windows, you have pretty much done it, and then you leave and go somewhere else.
There is a sex museum there as well, which is worth a wonder round, as it is pretty famous. Can't remember much about it!
It's also very well policed, they are there to look after the girls and stop trouble, so go and enjoy, you will be with loads of other couples who all go for a look !
