I'm going to Calais on a shopping trip can I use my credit card o.k over there or am I better to take Euros thanks

You should have no problem and it will cost you less than taking euros. (Note the term 'commission-free' is a lie - the commission is in the exchange rate)

You can use your credit card aslong as you let the credit card company know when you are going and when you are coming back, this is because if your credit card is used abroad with no notification, the credit card company will assume your card has been stolen and will not let the transaction go through. Taking euros aswell is a good idea as most markets and small shops do not accept credit cards. Hope thats helped you!

I spent 5 weeks in New Zealand in July/August and did not inform my card companies. However all of my transactions were processed immediately (Capital One Visa credit card and Clydesdale Bank Maestro debit card). I don't think they check where the card is being used. It is your responsibility to inform them if it is stolen.

Definately inform your credit card company before using it abroad.My card was looped and cloned in South Africa a few tears ago.I had no trouble at all claiming a full refund of the over �3,000 taken from my account as it was used after I had told them I would be flying back(Card was looped the night before we flew home and as we left early morning I couldn't check if it had simply been swallowed by the cash dispenser as that does happen sometimes out there)Otherwise I find just taking enough euros for market shopping and doing main shop with a credit card is easily the best.Think about getting a Nationwide card if you travel abroad a lot as they don't charge you for cash conversions which can be costly
