which side of the road?

we drive on the left which comes from historic reasons of cavalrymen and their swords but my question is why do mainland europe drive on the right?

I believe it was all changed because an awkward little Frenchman name of Napoleon wanted things done his way and not the "British" or "English" way.
Interestingly, when the UK thought about a change-over to driving on the right, some motorway slip-roads were built with this in mind. They're still as they were, and you'll know them because the curves tighten up in the wrong place.
