Hand luggage allowances

I'm travelling to India next month and I was wondering what I am allowed to take in terms of the contents of my hand luggage (regarding liquids etc).

Various people have said such things as 'you can take bottles of liquid as long as they are sealed' and 'you can take anything less than 100ml'.

Does anyone know for definite what the allowances are?

The best idea is to check the website of whichever airline you are flying with. Or even the Airport website will probably tell you.
The websites of both Heathrow & Gatwick have got very comprehensive information on what you can and cannot take. There is also a pdf page you can print off with a complete detailed checklist. Just go to either of their home pages and there is a clear link to the information.
