from BMI Baby website:-

UK domestic & UK-Republic of Ireland
photographic identification

All passengers aged 16 years or over must present valid photographic identification for all UK domestic flights and for all flights between the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Children of 14-15 years of age are permitted to travel alone, but will also require photographic identification to be accepted for travel. Children aged 13 or below do not require photographic identification.

bmibaby accepts all forms of photographic identification, however passengers must ensure that all personal identification is of a good standard. If identification appears to be fraudulent, passengers may be refused for travel.

PLEASE NOTE: bmibaby reserves the right to refuse travel if the passport/ID presented is not considered in a suitable condition or shows signs of being tampered with.

in a nutshell you need some form of acceptable ID with your photo on it that resembles you e.g driving license, passport etc, dont know if they accept student cards with photos on them
It depends on your airline - they all have different rules about what id they will accept. The worst are Ryanair, who will only accept a passport or a photo driving licence. BMIBaby look much better - don't know if mushroom quoted them just as an example or because they fly your route.
