I have previously asked a question about visiting Croatia but I have narrowed my trip down a bit and would like a bit more advice if anyone can help. I definately would like to fit in my schedule a visit to Mostar in Bosnia and also Montenegro. Can these be done as individual day trips(is it worthwhile in that do you get a reasonable amount of time there?). We will be spending some time in Split and Dubrovnik so from which base are we best to make the trips. And can anyone recommend travel company for those specific trips. thanks in advance for any information.

We drove to Kotor in Montenegro in a day trip from Dubrovnik. Kotor is beautiful, it did take a while to get there (probably felt longer because our map finished at just outside Croatia so wasn't really sure how much further we had to go). I think it took about 3 hours but the journey is part of the experience so I didn't mind that. There is a lovely parking area viewpoint on the way round Kotor Bay that looks across to Persat with a hotel on an island. The mountains come right down to the sea, it really is a beautiful area.

Have you thought about Plitvice and Krka national parks while in Croatia? They are amazing.

We didn't go to Mostar but there was a day trip available from our hotel in Dubrovnik. We flew to Spilt but didn't stay there so don't know what tours were offered from there. Have a look at some of my photos here http://www.flickr.com/photos/shadow17horse/
30 years ago when I was in Dubrovnik I did a day trip to Mostar. It was a really nice day out & we visited a Turkish house whilst there- it was a very Turkish area. On the way back we went to a village that had oyster beds and tried them for the first time. We went on an overnight trip into Montenegro via the coast & Kotor then up into the mountains & stayed the night in - I think - Podgorica. It was interesting once you got into the mountains because the people there were completely unadulterated by any other nation. They were fierce mountain fighters and no one had ever managed to successfully invade their territory over the centuries although many tried. We booked the trips whilst there but what it is like these days I don't know.
I can thoroughly recommend Elite Travel, based in Dubrovnik

I visited Mostar on a day trip during a holiday to Yugoslavia as it was then (about 20 years ago) - I have to say that personally, I found it a strange and slightly sinister place and didn't enjoy the trIp at all. I have been to some fairly exotic and "different" places, so I can't say that it was just because it was a different culture. I just did not feel comfortable there at all. Dubrovnik was beautiful.
