When does Europe become Asia? Is Turkey Europe? What about Albania?

Turkey is in Europe politically but socially/ culturally/ geographically/ historically it straddles the two continents - Turkey in Europe being the relatively small part of the country west of the Dardanelles that borders Greece and Bulgaria; Asian Turkey being the great land mass between the Black Sea and the Med (map: http://www.mfa.gov.tr/grupc/ca/caa/004.htm ).

Russia is in a similar position: traditionally in Europe to the west of the Ural mountains and in Asia to the East (including Siberia etc).

Albania, however, is strictly in Europe.

Anomalies thrown up by politics etc include Israel appearing in the Eurovision Song Contest and Kazakhstan's football team being in Uefa... don't let them fool you!

The border runs along the Ural mountain range in Russia, meaning that Mocow, St Petrsburg and the western part of Russia is in Europe, but the rest is in Asia.
