What do female tourists typicall wear when visiting India (Delhi)? I'm going in 4 weeks, and I'm not sure what to pack, as I usually live in jeans, but am guessing they will be too hot. Do you have to keep your arms and legs covered?
I visit Delhi once a month on business. This time of year its starting to get hot, but not unbearable.
You don't have to have arms and legs covered. India, and expecially places like Mumbai and Delhi , is now very western in their attitude so just dress how you feel comfortable.
Having said that, I'd probably wear t shirts as opposed to vests, etc as people do still tend to stare a lot.
I found this video travel guide to India which might help you plan your trip and might have the answer to your question: http://www.sutree.com/Learn.aspx?q=india
But from what I know from my friends who traveled there, women can were what they want.
Have a great trip!
If you go on business dont wear a tee shirt or you will be classed as a hippy -- true !!!! for leisure time tee shirt and cotton trousers/ peddle pushers/ longish shorts not the skimpy ones that show the cheeks of your bum unless at the beach. The less you wear the more you will get stared at., because their females wouldnt do it. bare arms is okay.
