post 2!

I am going away to work in India (Chennai) at the beginning of October and would really like some help with what to take etc...

I need to wear smart(ish) clothes while at work (apparently it wil be cold in the centre I'm working in - so lots of cardi's) but can obviously wear whatever I want during my time off!....Does any one have any ideas for a kind of capsule wardrobe for going away (2wks) that will suit all occasions (work & play) while keeping me cool etc?...also bearing in mind that I will be a woman travelling alone for!! most of the time

Also, anyone know if I need to keep my arms/legs covered in that area of India? Will I need sun creams etc for that time of year in India?

A xXx

It is likely to be pretty hot over there then I would think, but quite muggy due to the impending monsoon. I would imagine that there would be some sun though, so sun cream would be recommended.

Interms of keeping covered up, it is advisable, as well as for your own safety, but also because most parts of India are very religious regardless of what religion, so would prefer this!
Sorry, meant to say current monsoon!! I was thinking the other way round. - The monsoon will be coming to an end, but there will still be hot and sunny days as well as rainy ones!
Dont wear any synthetic materials, they will make you feel horrible and sweaty. Probably just the same as anywhere else where it will be a bit hot, spacious tops, made from things like cotton.
Need to keep your shoulders covered, not sure about legs though.
You should buy a nice sari while your over there, my english teacher did and its gorgeous and according to her brilliant for keeping you cool!
Im going to Bangalore next June, cant wait.
Hi fox, lucky you, what an experience!

I would really recommend those wide legged linen trousers you can buy in most clothes stores throughout summer-many have been reduced now, so it won't cost you a fortune to stock up!
Apparently the locals have a saying that there are three seasons in Chennai : Hot, hotter and hottest!!!! - according to Mr Sense. lol. It's going to be a good idea to stick to the natural fibres, suncream not essential it's humid not direct sunshine ( hope you don't have curly hair your trying to keep secret! ) Monsoon all but over. It's not too strict on dress but long swooshy fabrics will cool you as you move about ( mr sense says the girls he goes with wear floaty trousers ) The main common sense things revovle around water issues ... drink only bottled water ( brush your teeth with it too) , steer clear of the salads, no ice in your drink ...
travelling to work place can take a long time make sure you have a large bottle with you in the cab/car. Enjoy it!
