I am travelling to New York for 5 days tomorrow and I notice that my passport expires at the end of september 08. Will I be refused admission as I have less than 6 months left?

No you won't.

If you have a UK (and many others) passport you can travel as long as it is valid when you leave the US. There is one of the specific country agreements in place that titchfield's quote mentions

The 6-month rule is an urban myth - put about by travel agents so they don't have to learn the specific requirements for each country.............

For the USA - For nationals included in the Visa Waiver Program (see below), passports must be valid for at least 90 days from date of entry.
