hi
we returned from Miami on friday after a 16 nt holiday , BA managed to loose all our luggage we had nothing for 8 days !!! after 8 days we got 2 bags - then day 12 another bag and day 14 the last bag. It was my daughters 7th bday whilst we were there all her cards presents ( just small things were in the case) she didnt get these til 3 days late she is just 7 and was very upset , as were we. I have to write to BA with all receipts etc - between us we spent about 700 and we didnt go mad but it soon adds up undies , swim wear , toiletries, shoes , eve wear ( we had meals bkd etc ) what do you think my chances are of getting this back ? To be honest I think we should be entitled to some compensation too it spoilt the 1st week of our holiday big time ! Not to mention the fact BA never once contacted us to update us we had to call them , infact when calling from US we got nowhere my dad had to call from UK for us. The moral of this story is don't fly with BA ! I have also called our insurance today they say max we will get if we are succesful is 100 each but they want us to claim from BA.
any advice appreciated

there are strict policies in place now covering lost or delayed baggage, certain amounts of money are payable to people, per person,so you claiming one amount is no good,it will be done on the number of people,ie,say 5 people at 200 pounds per person, etc,so my advice is find out exactly BAs policy, and the civil aviations policy and go from there.
I have had missing baggage from air travel, and i totally understand how it can spoil your trip..
Unfortunately though, all you are entitled to is the refund of any necessity items you had to purchase whilst away from home. Toiletries such as toothpaste, tooth brush, deo, etc you can claim if you loose your bag for more than 24 hours, after that, you can claim for neccesary clothes too.
I claimed a total of 380 and my bag was lost for the whole of my trip. I would guess as long as you didnt buy designer everything, for 3+ of you, 700 will be paid. If you ended up buying a (reasonably priced!) extra birthday present for your daughterwhile you were away as her ones were delayed, you could try and play sympathy vote and claim it. You will need to write this separately and you will need to have receipts for EVERYTHING you claim you bought.

Hope this helps.
