cheap hotel in new york

Im looking for a cheap hotel to stay at in new york in july, is it possible to find one or will I have to stay in a hostel? I dont mind whereabouts it is as long as I can get to it by metro. Any suggestions?

I've found that, for less expensive hotels, you'll need to book as far out as you possibly can. Cheap is a relative term in New York, as I'm sure you're aware. You do have the excellent exchange rate between Pound and dollar going for you though.

We dont mind staying in a hostel as long as its decent, as it will be a private twin room. I dont mind sharing the bathroom.

the Pennysylvania hotel opposite Madison Square garden is quite cheap it is on Octopus travel it is basic but clean and has hot water which is all you need

a family member stayed in a hostel in NY, she said it was fine but they turfed you out just after 9am and you had to take all your belongings with you.

Stayed at Wolcott Hotel between 5th Avenue and Broadway in August last year. Very reasonable, central, clean etc.
