clio starter motor
Clio 1.4 W reg. Called AA as car wouldn't start, just a click when turning the key. AA bloke said it needs new starter motor. He got it started, it got me home, I left it an hour or so & it started no problem. Tried again this morning & it started first time. Is it the starter motor or could it be something else? Is it usual for the starter motor to play up intermittently? Also have been quoted 80 for a fully reconditioned starter motor, is that good?

If it happens again you can usually get it going by either push starting, tapping the starter with a hammer or sometimes putting it in gear and rocking it back and forwards although nonw are ideal if your by yourself stuck in the middle of nowhere in the rain.
Not sure about clio's specifically but i would have thought that $809 was about right but im only guessing on that one.

some starters on renaults have a female spade connector fitting for the earth as opposed to other cars which have eyelit fittings held on by a nut onto a stud, its worth checking that its not a corroded connection or loose, the fact that its intermittent would maybe suggest so. may save you a few bob
OK thanks. I know nothing about cars, I'm a sad female who just puts petrol in & drives!
The bloke from AA assured me it was the starter motor. He did keep trying different things, explaining them all to me, but over my head! He spoke of the connections getting corroded, checked, were ok, he mentioned solenoids & things, but came to the conclusion that it was the actual starter motorl
