The area from Girona northwards to france is full of lovely towns - Girona and Figueras are two - and hidden coastal gems (ignore Benidorm). But I think you ight be looking at self catering / hotels rather than the kind of resort that provides everything on one site.
It depends what you mean by 'resort'. Barcelona isn't generally thought of as a 'resort; but it's got great beaches, fantastic restaurants, bars to suit all tastes, loads of history & culture and an excellent (cheap) integrated transport system.
It's also got loads of cheap flights, with easyJet, Jet2, BA, LTE, Monarch and Bmi flying directly into Barcelona and Ryanair serving Gerona and Reus (which are both 'an hour and a bit' away from Barcelona on the express coach services).
There are certainly a few clubs and bars in Barcelona which are packed with wild & loud young people but these are the exception, rather than the rule. It's far easier to find 'civilised' bars and restaurants, serving excellent paella, great beers and good wines.

Nerja is my favourite of the Costas, handy for Malaga airport but the opposite direction to the very big resorts on Costa del Sol.
Very good public transport if you want to get out and about. You can have day trips to Morocco, Gibraltar, Granada from there if that's your thing.
There is a beach, but it's at the end of a VERY steep hill. Plenty of bars once you get down there.
Lots of lots of good restaurants - all nationalities - and Spanish bars. The skyline is not dominated by towering hotel blocks, there are plenty of traditional Spanish people living there in traditional Spanish houses, as well as ex pats.
It's prettier than a lot of Spanish holiday destinations. I like it.
