I've just bought a new wheelie suitcase which measures 58cm. The restriction on the airline is 55cm. Will I be ok? I really don't want the hassle of putting the case in the hold. I'm really worried now...

it will probably depend on the day. If it's lightly packed just pick it up effortlessly - with one hand - and wave it around and say 'carry-on only' and they probably won't object. If it looks heavy or bulging they might suggest you weigh it or put it in one of their size-checkers. On the other hand if they're flat out they probably won't. It's impossible to tell. (And it depends on the airline.) But you are at some risk of having it taken it off you.
This happened to me in August, but the security people measure these cases and my wheels didn't fit, and they said it was ok. It weighed a ton!!!
