My request is simple - or so I thought. I'd like to take a day-trip to Edinburgh from Carlisle. Unless I leave in the middle of the night, either by road or rail, there is no public transport that can get me there at a reasonable time. So much for Mr Brown urging me to leave my car at home ! If I lived in Middle Wallop ( "where's that?" I hear you say) I'd acknowledge that there was a problem - but Carlisle? Does someone know something I don't? Many thanks.
What's a 'reasonable time ' for you ?
The 9:47 train from Carlisle gets into diburgh at 11:10
The one before that leaves Carlisle at 8:35 and gets in at 10:56
Well it does depend on what day you want to travel I suppose, but looking at next Saturday you could get a train which leaves Carlisle at 07.42 and arrives in Edinburgh at 9.24. http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/tt
It seems that very few people must want to travel on that route on Sundays (because that's the only day when you can't arrive in Edinburgh before 1418).
On other days, there are plenty of suitable trains, taking about 1 hours each way, for 17.50 return.
