12 miles from Dublin - Dn Laoghaire, my mum raves about it. Also near there theres this lake which looks like its made of Guiness (apt lol). In Dublin centre, Trinity College, its beautiful, and St Stephen's Green.
Book of Kells, an illuminated medieval manuscript, is in Trinity College and is very interesting (you only see one page of it but there's lots of other stuff). Good view of the town from the bar at the top of the Guinness brewery - the price of a tour includes a free pint. Nice Georgian houses and squares. Nightlife around Temple Bar. Two cathedrals and Dublin castle are good if you like that sort of thing. You can take the suburban train up the coastline, which is pretty if the weather's nice.
Trip out to the Wicklow Mountains and visit Glendalough. As jno states, the Book of Kells and library at Trinity College, however I think when the students are in residence it's only open on Sundays.
What I would have liked to have done but didn't have time was sit in at a court hearing at the Four courts (or is it five?) the irish system isn't the same.
A pub at Temple Bar on a nightime for the music.
There's a museum of modern art and there's another museum at Collins barracks. You can catch a tram from the centre to there very easily but watch which day you go. It's closed one day a week and we chose the wrong one! Phoenix Park has a zoo in it. (btw Phoenix has nothing to do with the bird, it's a mispronunciation of fionn uisce - which means clearwater in Irish.) Malahide, north of Dublin, is a nice old house and the bay is lovely. The Abbey Theatre has some really good productions and tickets are usually easier to get than for shows at The Point.
