My birthday is at the end of this month and my boyfriend has suggested we go and stop in a hotel somewhere from the Fri night to the Sunday morning, where would be nice? We also want something to do on the Saturday during the day? Also, I won't be home till 6 on the Friday so nowhere that involves excessive travelling (we live in Warwickshire)

Oxford would seem to be an obvious choice:

Alternatively, you could stay somewhere in northern Buckinghamshire:

e.g. Aylesbury:

Then (if it's your type of thing) you could head into Milton Keynes on Saturday, to have (indoor) fun in the snow at Xscape:

Thankyou! Will have a look at the websites, Milton Keynes sounds good for the snow thing cos theyve got the fake sky diving thingy as well! Did have a look at the Bath tourist info website but it all sounded very girly with spas and ballet and although it's my birthday don't think I can expect to go to these without too much moaning!

It is my birthday too at the end of this month (snap!) and DH is taking me away for the weekend - we have found a super deal at http://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/ettingtonpar k
If you click on the Winter Offer link- you get dinner, b&B for a good price (considering the standard). It has a spa and is close to Stratford. May see you there!

ooh that looks a bit fancy!! probably a bit out of our price range but will show the boyfriend as he will be the one paying!
Hi Sophie- here are the other places we looked at -nice country pubs with roaring fires - but we figured once we had paid for dinner it would almost be the same as Ettington (with out the plushnes!) He is paying after all!

How about chester, i also live in Warwickshire and it was about a 2 hour drive when me and my boyfirend went there. We stayed at the Best Weston Queen hotel which was about a 5 minute walk from the center and spend one day at the zoo which is lovely! Its a gorgeous city with lovely shops and restaurants!
Just notcie the above post for the Ettington Park Hotel! I used to work there! How strange! Gorgeous hotel set in lovely grounds! Not i walking distance for anywhere though!

Yeah, meals do push the price up, like the sound of Chester hadn't thought of a zoo! will speak to him later and see what the budget is! ooh how exciting!!
dont bother with Oxford i found it boring with not alot to do. Go to York, its stunningly old, LOADS to do, and when i went we stayed in a gorgeous hotel right next to the centre in the Queens Suite as a birthday treat and it was cheap as chips! Good Luck!
