I'm contemplating doing some travelling on my own, as I don't know anyone that would go with me. It's also something I want to do, to prove that I can do it alone. I'm interested in people's opinions, especially women, who have travelled alone and how they found it. I have done some travelling with a friend but never on my own and I find the idea of it quite scary.

Don't worry KittyGlitter.  I've done both in various places round the world.  The only problem I found with travelling on my own is that everybody feels sorry for you cos they think you're billy-no-mates and they won't pi$$ off & leave you alone!  Seriously, you'll be fine.  As long as you've got a Lonely Planet its embarrassingly easy and a couple of days into your adventure you won't know what you were worried about.  And like I say, from day 1 you'll meet loads of single travellers (girls & boys) who are just like you - whether you like it or not!
I'll go with you... ;o) I travelled round the world by myself and was a bit apprehensive before I went, but I needn't of worried everywhere I went I met similar people doing similar things and in fact travelling by myself was ideal because when I needed to be with people there were people but when I wanted to be by myself I could be and I didn't have to take anyone else's opinion into account at any point - could do exactly what I wanted when I wanted. Obviously there are additional worries for a lone female traveller, but providing you use common sense and are at least aware of potential problems you should be ok. I ended up travelling with a group of 12 or so people some of whom were lone females. It was great we'd all go off and do different things either alone or in groups of 3/4/5 and meet up again a couple of days or a week later, I highly recommend it

I'll go with you too!

I'm going travelling but dont want to go alone again.

I travelled around France alone, It was quite good, the Hitchiking was easier as a female all alone is quite reassuring to drivers!

Not having someone to share the fun with was the only downside I'd say.

Oh, and stay at loads of youth hostels, there's always loads of women on their own doing the same thing that will give you tips, and also might even travel part-way with you!

Have fun!

At the second attempt!

Go for it Kitty...I did I travelled to Tenerife and Zante alone, had a wonderful time, did what I wanted when I wanted. I made loads of friends and even went to a hen night and then the wedding of a couple I met in Zante. I'm in my 40's and was apprehensive but it was Brill...You'll love it...take a couple of good books to read while waiting to be served in resaraunts and some sun glasses to hide behind if you don't want company. If anyone asks tell them Hubby is on a fishing trip that usally works lol Have fun
