TFL travelcard
I live on the outskirts of London and I'm thinking about getting a travelcard because I'll be on the tube so much next year. I'll be travelling in from zone 5 one end to zone 2 the other without getting off in between. I'm working on the basis that that means I'll need a zone 1 - 5 travelcard because I'll still be going through zone 1 even though I won't be getting of there. Am I right?
Also say I was right, if I did want to go to zone 1 every one in a while could I still do that, just on my oyster I mean or would I get into trouble?
And is a travelcard a separate card or does it go on your oyster?
Thanks! x

You would need a travelcard covering all the zones you pass through.
Why bother with an Oyster if you have a TC covering Zones 1 to 5? The TC covers you for leaving the system at a Zone 1 station.

Travelcards of longer than 7 days go on an Oyster card, I think. Oysters are convenient - no queues to buy tickets. You may have to queue to load them up but you can also do this automatically online (give it your bank details and it will load it up every time the balance goes below 5.) Yes, you'd need to cover all zones you go through, and you'd then be able to get on and off at stations in any of those zones, plus buses, DLR and I think trams.
