The only thing that ever happened in past 30 years was when we were both around but away from the house for about an hour. Opportunists tend to visit when suits them and without knowledge of whether you are abroad or just out of the house at that moment. (in my opinion)
I've never worried about being burgled whilst i have been away on holiday. I've returned home and found the place looking like it had been ransacked but that was only my two sons being lazy gits and not keeping the kitchen and the whole downstairs tidy! they used every cup dish plate and piece of cutlery and did not emplty the bun, only the freezer!
I've been away and come home and found the house strangly changed and not realised why until i realised there was a new hearth rug, lol again, the culprit was known to me though no clear admission to date!!!
Thx Gd mrs.chappie that I'm not the only nut to do that!! Husband turns off water, gas, pulls out every socket in the place and locks all the windows and internal doors before we leave the hse! then, 3 miles up the road I say, 'Did I put that fag out?" So he has to turn and come back just to prove to me that I had!! Now, if someone were to try and break in when we are away, all our doors & windows have alarms on them so the way I see it is, the aul neighbours have to listen to them banging out & have the bother of calling the cops! I'm out of it by that stage! So if the neighbours who miss nothing, couldn't stop it hard on them! Stop worrying about it - just enjoy your hols!
I must admit, we're lax about security. We used to live in a very small, sleepy village where there was never any trouble, and (foolishly) we sometimes went out, or to bed, and left the doors unlocked.
We've now moved to a much bigger, busier place, and it's certainly not as safe as our previous house, but we still sometimes go out and forget to lock the door. Very daft of us, I know.
I've lived in London, I've briefly lived in another big city, and there's no substitute for living out in the beautiful countryside - apart from being nearer to the shops - but even that doesn't matter too much. I have lots of stuff delivered.
totally agree Ice having come from the rural country to a suberb you cant beat the country i used to leave my car unlocked and still do at home plus you can leave the key in the door
Elvis, we moved to be nearer to the family, but to be honest, we miss our old house and area so much, we wish we hadn't moved.
We still live in a village but it is a very big one, nothing like where we used to live. We've lived in present house for two years now, but it still doesn't feel like home.
Yes pink. I wouldn't swap for living anywhere more built up if you paid me. I know it suits some, particularly young single people who might want the pub and club scene, but I've done all that and can happily say goodbye to it. My children have an expanse of garden, woodland and fields to play in, and I know that they can go off for the day and be perfecctly safe.
