visa to live in uk
12 Answers
my wife, who is from thailand, will need to apply for permission to stay in the uk in june next year, she has lived here 3 years already and her extension visa runs out in june 2010. she has been working as a chef in the same job for 3 years. the problem is me! i am self employed and due to having a heart attack 2 years ago and getting into debt, was declared bankrupt in august last year. i am still trading and earning money but i do not have a bank account. the application form for my wifes visa requires that i send bank statements which of course i do not have. i just need some help or guidance as to what i should do, so if anyone out there in answerbank land has any advice to offer i'd be very gratefull. thankyou

Whoever dealt with your b/ruptcu should have provided you with a list of banks who accept bankrupts and will give them basic account with cheque book and card - you can do that now.
Not sure how you run a business without a bank acc actually, unless you are paid in cash or cheques are writtne out to your wife
All sounds fishy too me

nothing fishy at all, just don't want a bank account for fear of running up debts, only the last 30 years have i had a bank account and that was forced upon me by an employer. if we all got back to pay as you go cash deals there would be little debt for everyone! I deal in cash, am paid in cash, pay bills in cash, if there are any cheque payments then you are correct, they are paid into my wifes account.

i probably get 2 cheques a year if at all, tax man has never questioned it, i declare all that i earn, what is so wrong in dealing in cash, thats the way it was for hundreds of years.as i said before, if more people dealt in cash and not credit and debit cards then there wouldn't be half the debt around as there is now. why should i have a bank account...........big brother is watching you!!!!

hc4361. practically anything can be paid for with cash including broadband!! also, council tax, car insurance, rent, holidays, etc. i don't know how old you are but i guess you are at an age when all you've known is a bank account, direct debits, standing orders, etc, where as i'm of an age when your salary ALWAYS was paid in cash at the end of the week, if you didn't have any money you couldn't buy anything, surely much better than the must have, pay later culture of today.
redcrx, you are quite correct in saying it would help my wife with her visa application, i just wanted some sound advice before i put the application in, hoping that maybe somewhere someone had a similar problem. if it means i must open an account then indeed i will but would really like not to.
