Since there isn't a Topic titled Earth Shaking Events, I suppose this one will have to accomodate this admittedly non-question, scilicet: Shortly after noon on July 8, comes the moment that can be called 12:34:56 7/8/9. (I realize this may not be so newsworthy for those areas of the world that use another method of denoting years/months/days, but here in the U.S. it's expected to be a National Holiday.)

As a matter of fact, the next momentous event of this nature will occur in a couple of years and we'll have 11:11:11 11/11/11! Pedantics celebrate! (Should I use a question mark to legitamize this entry?)

No, Clanad, do yourself a favour and just send for the men in the white coats!
Only in the USA. We dont format our dates like that in the UK; its dd/mm/yy.

At least we have this time/date phenomena to look forward to in August! Let us know how it goes for you Clanad.

I, for one, thank you for that post. Whilst not earth shattering per se - it is noteworthy.

And I have noted it.

Along with learning not to press the Submit button more than once when posting a question, I've also found this supposed new-worthy item was largely yawned over here in the U.S. as well. No National Holiday, no Presidential Citation, no Main Street Parade... no nothing! Ho-hum...

I'll certainly voice my complaints at our regular Wednesday night meeting of Pedants & Pedantess' United, all three of us will be mightily upset. (The guys in the white coats will be in attendance as usual)... I'm beginning to think the others only come for the free finger sandwiches though...
