Berlin public transport

I've purchased a 3 day voucher for public transport. I land at the airport mid evening. If I validate my voucher on 14th December does that mean it will be valid for 14th, 15th and 16th or do we get 72 hours of free transport? Or, would I be better off paying my train fare to Berlin and getting the voucher validated the next day?
