East Coast train Peterborough to York

Hi, am travelling East Coast trains Peterborough to York on Xmas Eve (leaving Peterborough 13:17) returning Sun 27 Dec (leaving York 11:53). Am ordering tickets tonight, should I reserve my seat?, never been on this line before so have no idea at all how busy it would be on those days. Any help greatly appreciated, I do not want to have to wander up and down the train looking for a seat if at all possible. Thanks James

It's an extremely service normally but a lot of it is business travel......difficult to say but I always reserve seats (I live in York)

Have you seen pictures, on TV, of the Tokyo underground in the rush hour (where they pay people to push commuters into overcrowded trains)? Trains on the East Coast Mainline, around Christmas, often seem to be like that (particularly on Christmas Eve)! Travelling without a seat reservation (and the determination to insist that the person you find sitting in your seat actually lets you use it) is absolute madness.

From what I know about travelling on that line (regularly) I would say book for definite. It is extremely busy and Christmas Eve it will be utter bedlam.
