Hong Kong

I have recently taken an interest in travelling to Hong Kong but apart from what I have seen on tv, I know very little about the place. I am aware that it is an expensive island?
What time of the year is it best to go in terms of weather and in terms of price?
Is one weke sufficient time to comfortably see the main attractions? What are the people like there?
Have any ABers travelled to Hong Kong? What were their impressions/experiences like?
I am really intrigued about this place.

December to March would seem to be the best time to go if you want to avoid the heat, humidity and rain, with typical daily maximum temperatures between 17C and 20C.

If you'd prefer it a bit warmer (but with little chance of rain and still not too humid) November might be better (around 23C).

I went there about three years ago on a stopover - this was February - weather was ok but the famous Hong Kong fog was in evidence and we never saw the sun during our two days - spoilt it a bit as I'm sure the sun would have made for a better experience. Did not find it expensive - in fact at one of the markets I got some absolute bargains! I think you could easily do the whole tourist thing in five days. I would sum up, enjoyed it for two days but wouldn't go back.

You might want to stay away during the typhoon season (can`t remember when that is). Not expensive there. Probably best to stay on the island rather than Kowloon then you`re in the centre of things. A week would be long enough (Victoria Peak, night markets, Lantau or Lammu island, shopping, New Territories. It`s very busy there - lots of hustle and bustle.

It's the only place I've ever been where my glasses steamed up when I went OUTSIDE!
Avoid the summer June - August at all costs - it's like living in a steam bath.
Late April/early May is fine.

I went for 9 days and could easily have stayed longer, though a week is long enough to see the main things. Why don't you buy yourself a nice guide book and have a good read.
