I am heading to Chester next week for a break. I am a widow in her 60s and this will be my first holiday on my own. Can anyone give me any advice on what to see, where to go, what to do etc? Any help will be much appreciated.

Perhaps you'd enjoy a river cruise?

Or you could take a heritage tour on a vintage bus:

If you're free on Wednesday 16th, there's a day trip to Barmouth & Snowdonia on offer. (Fare £16.50 or £12.50 for concessions). Phone Jones Holidays on 01352 733292 for details.

Also look out for the World Town Crier Tournament. You can hear the competitors outside the Town Hall each day from Tuesday onwards next week.

I'm from Chester originally, I'd reccomend a river boat tour on the river dee, Katies Tea room for a nicely priced lunch and good table service (on Watergate Street), and a visit to the cathedral is just lovely. I agree wtih Chris about the Town Crier tournament, the town crier is just a lovely person, it would make anyone leave with a smile :)
brilliant shops too, Browns of Chester is actually a debenhams and really good.
